Literacy Practicum

This Fall 2016 I am doing my Literacy Practicum at Salida Del Sol Academy. Before you take this class you have to turn in all the paperwork for the the EDFE 120 check point packet of your Elementary Education teacher preparation. After  completing  this, you will have access to them on Blackboard. You will then be assigned to a UNC supervisor,

Before the school year starts I would recommend contacting CT (Cooperating Teacher) and introduce yourself again. Remember that your CT is letting you be part of her/his classroom, and you should be greatfull for this opportunity.

During your Practicum you are required to teach 5 lessons.

Your CT has to observe you teach:

  • 1 Math lesson
  • 2 Literacy lessons

Your Supervisor has to observe you teach:

  • 1 Literacy lesson
  • 1 Math lesson

I have attached the 2 handbooks you will need. Don’t let the 16

Once you are in the classroom, be ready to learn and interact with schools staff. You will feel overwhelmed the first week. Find peacein your mind even when their chaos around you ( Oh yeah you will be surprised)

In my case, it has been 1 month and two weeks.I am loving it everyday! Believe me  , you’ll wish you where only in school instead of going back to at UNC, but there is a reason for it. You’ll find out that the subjects/themes you talk in class relate to what you see and experience at your school. You will find yourselfmaking connections to theory and practice.

Hang in there!
